Digital forensics and cybersecurity across New Jersey

GDF supports New Jersey matters from the Hudson waterfront through Central Jersey and the Shore, with statewide coordination for on-site, laboratory, and remote work. An assignment may begin with a single laptop in Jersey City, a cloud tenant used by a Newark business, expert deadlines in state or federal court, or an industrial network serving a manufacturing or logistics site. The scope follows the evidence and operating conditions rather than a city boundary.

Expert witness work begins with the disputed fact

Counsel may need to establish who used a device, whether an email is authentic, how a database produced a result, when files moved, whether media was edited, or why two examiners reached different opinions. GDF identifies the systems capable of answering that question, preserves the available material, and records the method used to reach each conclusion.

Support can include early technical assessment, a collection protocol, independent examination, affirmative or rebuttal reports, declarations, demonstratives, deposition, hearing, and trial testimony. Reports separate observed facts from technical inferences and information supplied by others. Counsel retains control of legal strategy and admissibility arguments. GDF does not provide legal advice.

The United States District Court for the District of New Jersey holds court in Newark, Trenton, and Camden. A technical scope may therefore need to coordinate records, custodians, counsel, and deadlines across more than one part of the state. Counsel determines venue, procedure, and the governing legal standard.

  • Computer, storage, mobile, email, cloud, database, and media analysis
  • Documented custody, hashing, validation, exceptions, and workpapers
  • Expert witness testimony and preparation for state or federal proceedings

Preservation across devices, mailboxes, and cloud systems

New Jersey businesses often combine local endpoints with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, cloud storage, collaboration platforms, mobile devices, and industry applications. Preservation begins by identifying control, retention, access, synchronization, and the fields a later examination will require. A mailbox export may answer one question while identity events, message headers, audit logs, or endpoint records answer another.

eDiscovery collections are planned with counsel and the client team. Custodian communications, collection status, exceptions, transfers, processing decisions, and production handoffs remain traceable. Privilege and legal decisions stay with counsel; GDF addresses the collection and technical record.

Cyber response and security testing for reachable risk

For an active event, GDF can begin 24/7 response by telephone. The first response plan balances containment with preservation of identity, endpoint, cloud, network, email, and application evidence. The team develops a chronology, tests the likely entry and movement path, identifies affected systems, and supports recovery and validation.

Proactive work includes human-led penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, application and source-code review, and incident readiness planning. Findings show how a weakness can be reached, what the demonstrated consequence was, who owns the correction, and how the repair will be retested.

New Jersey's breach process can require a precise account of affected data, timing, containment, and notification steps. GDF develops the technical record that management and counsel can use. The firm does not decide whether an event is legally reportable or provide legal advice.

OT and SCADA work under operator control

Pharmaceutical, manufacturing, energy, water, transportation, building, warehouse, and logistics environments require security methods that respect uptime and process safety. GDF begins with engineering records, operator interviews, passive traffic, and existing asset data. Active validation is separately authorized with named targets, a maintenance window, communications, stop conditions, and recovery support.

Assignments can cover passive-first asset discovery, ICS security architecture, network segmentation validation, vendor access, incident readiness, operational consequence ranking, and technical evidence for NERC CIP or another applicable program. The accountable operator approves changes and accepts operating risk.

Coverage and logistics are confirmed during intake

GDF coordinates work across Newark, Jersey City, Hoboken, the Meadowlands, New Brunswick, Princeton, Trenton, Camden, and surrounding communities. Remote collection or review may be appropriate when the system and authorization support it. Device condition, data volume, contested custody, specialized acquisition, or plant restrictions may require on-site or laboratory handling.

The first call should identify the general location, source type, deadline, current custodian, and any reason the device or system cannot be moved or interrupted. Do not send evidence through the public contact form.
